"Honesty, fairness and good common sense are my work ethics" Work and family are my life. I have no hidden agendas or ax to grind I just want to do my job, I care about Flathead County so I want to do what is best for Flathead County and its residents."
Why Gerald "Jay" Scott?
As Jay announces his candidacy, he does it simply with a strong desire to use common sense to move Flathead County in a positive and healthy direction. He stated, " A good commissioner has no axes to grind. I have none. For me, I am running because Flathead County is close to my heart and I feel it's time to step up and be a part of the process."
More specifically Scott stated, "I believe in the things that most everyone wants for our county: job growth, smaller government, strong property rights, taxes that don't increase and a county that does the best it can to provide the basic services residents need. Flathead County has a lot to offer, and it must do what it has to do to convince hiring businesses, big or small, to relocate to our county. We have a huge work force, outstanding education and medical systems, an upgraded airport, transportation routes and phenomenal recreation opportunities. These attract the business world as well as residents and tourists.
Scott concluded, "We all know a candidate that tells us they will create jobs, lower taxes or give you more benefits is just blowing political smoke. The informed voter knows a County Commissioner is one of three votes. I will tell you what you can count on from me as Commissioner. First, I don't remember ever working less than 40 hours a week. That will not change as your Commissioner. I will listen to you. I will work diligently to maintain our taxes at the level they are now. I will accept nothing less than the wise and prudent spending of our tax dollars. I will work steadily toward improving the atmosphere that will attract healthy and hiring businesses to our county. I will put to practice my experience in the worlds of construction, agriculture, business, timber industry and county government. I will use the common sense that has served me well in all aspects of my life.
Jay Scott's Experience
Scott's work ethic is simple...work as long and as hard as it takes to get the job done. Never depend on anyone else to do your work. This was learned early in his working years at Plum Creek. This attitude grew as he developed a variety of successful business and employment opportunities over the years. They include owning a residential construction company, owning and operating a feeder and stock cow business along with owning two rodeo stock contracting companies
More recently, Jay was the Flathead County Fairgrounds Manager for 12 years. While in that position, he supervised over 250 employees during the NW MT Fair, as well as a year-round full time staff. While Fair Manager, Jay gained a keen awareness of county operations. He developed an understanding of the county's budgeting process. He worked closely with several other county departments as they strived to provide services needed by county residents. He saw the trials and tribulations they went through. In short, Jay gained a deep understanding of the working of Flathead County government.
